Cynosure Announces 2001 Screenwriting Awards
BroadMind Entertainment is proud to announce that Britta Sjogren and Ted Gurich are the winners of the third annual Cynosure Screenwriting Awards, a screenplay contest that recognizes outstanding scripts with female and minority protagonists. Britta and Ted have each received $2000 as prizes.
In the minority protagonist category, Britta Sjogren won with “Rage Carolina,” a script about a young black woman who undertakes an elaborate scheme to get revenge on the Southern family that destroyed her great-grandmother. Britta, a filmmaker and screenwriter, won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Short Film at the Sundance Festival in 1996 and is presently in post-production on her second feature, “Green and Dimming.”
“Mariachis in Mazatlan,” the winner of the female protagonist category, was recently featured in LA Magazine. It follows a repressed schoolteacher and her wild sister as they bounty-hunt their way through Mexico to pay off their dead stepfather’s bookies. Ted Gurich, the writer, is a stand up comedian and comedy writer.
The Cynosure Awards were established in 1998 to encourage screenwriters to create more dynamic roles for women and minorities through stories that reflect both the diversity and universality of the human experience. For further information regarding the 2001 Cynosure Screenwriting Awards or its 2001 finalists, semi-finalists, or quarter finalists, please visit the website at www.broadmindent.com or call (310) 855-8730.
