Contest News

TVWriter.Com Announces Contest Entry Totals

The deadline has come and gone, and although late (but properly postmarked) entries to The People's Pilot, The People's Picture Show, and The Spec Scriptacular writing contests are still trickling in, judging has begun. Before we announce the winners here's some of the info TV Writer. Com has gleaned so far.

THE PEOPLE'S PILOT

As of this writing, 176 entries have been received and preliminarily judged for The People's Pilot. Once again, any one of them could become a successful series - they're that good. Thinning out the ranks and finding semi-finalists, let alone winners, is tough and slow going. With any luck, however, the semi-finalists will be announced at the end of June.

THE PEOPLE'S PICTURE SHOE

So far, the People's Picture Show has received 96 entries, and the top 12 - one of the TV Writer.Com assistants says "Dirty Dozen" - have been sent to Cosgrove/Meurer for the final selection of the winner. High concept has been the order of the day, with thrillers and suspense stories leading the way in the competition between genres. Semi-finalists will be announced the first week in July.

SPEC SCRIPTACULAR

The Spec Scriptacular's inaugural writing has brought us a total of 110 entries as of June 10, 2002. 58 of the entries are sit-coms. 53 are 1 hour drama or action series.

The most popular series to spec was EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND, which was written by 11 writers. WILL AND GRACE and MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE tied for 2nd with 9 writers each, and ENTERPRISE, SEX AND THE CITY and THE WEST WING were next at 6 specs apiece. A complete breakdown will appear on the Spec Scriptacular page of TV Writer.Com as soon as we're certain all the entries have been received - and the semi-finalists will be announced within 2 weeks.
