Ernestina Juárez was born in Carrizo Springs, a rural south Texas town a few miles north of the Rio Grande. Because of her love of languages and literature, Tina majored in French, English and Spanish at Texas A&M University at Kingsville. After graduation, Tina taught in schools populated by students from economically challenged backgrounds. While continuing to teach, Tina earned an M.ED. in Educational Administration at Texas State University in San Marcos and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Texas at Austin. She was named the first Hispanic principal of Stephen F. Austin High School in Austin, Texas. She has served as an adjunct professor in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Texas at Austin. She is the author of several articles in professional journals and the co-author of a text on the history of student evaluation in American education. Pursuing her interest in the history of Mexico and the United States, Tina undertook to write historical fiction in hopes of bringing alive in an entertaining way little known events in the histories of both countries that had a profound effect on relations between the people of both countries. Her novel CALL NO MAN MASTER, published by Arte Publico Press of the University of Houston, was presented the Violet Crown Award for best work of fiction by the Austin Writer's league. Tina has endeavored to learn the craft of screenwriting and in 2018 her script, LABYRINTH OF DESTINY, was named one of ten finalists in the 2018 Academy Nicholl Fellowship program. LABYRINTH OF DESTINY was a finalist in the 2020 Big Break Competition, a finalist in the 2021 Golden Script Competition (Scotland) and a finalist in the 2023 Vail Film Festival Screenplay Competition. Her script, THE BANNER, based on events related to the birth of the Republic of Mexico, was chosen as the Grand Prize winner in the 2021 Cynosure Screenwriting Awards program, the Grand Prize Winner of the 2021 WriteMovies Screenplay Competition and the winner of the 2022-23 Santa Barbara International Screenwriting Competition Diverse Writers Outreach Award.
