Michael Atkinson hails from New York City, the “City that Never Sleeps”. The son of Jamaican immigrants, he was taught from a young age how important self-expression and English would be. Writing became one of his past times, especially through poetry and essay writing. Inspired by watching “Food Network”, he dedicated himself to learning culinary studies, but never forgot his writing roots. After 6 years of cooking, he was inspired by one of his good friends, a produced screenwriter, to write screenplays.

Inspired by watching “Food Network”, he dedicated himself to learning culinary studies, but never forgot his writing roots. After 6 years of cooking, he was inspired by one of his good friends, a produced screenwriter, to write screenplays. Hand-scribing his first screenplay, a teleplay about a Jamaican podcast host trying to balance his personal and professional studies, he became enthralled in creating stories about Black people and their experiences in the world. Since that first play, he’s created 5 movies and 4 pilots, and currently working on an urban drama feature and ready to tackle a Cop Teleplay with Demonic elements. He loves cooking Asian cuisine, video games and anime.
