Interviews

MovieBytes Interview:
Screenwriter Alan Baxter

An interview with screenwriter Alan Baxter regarding the Indie Gathering Writing Competition.

Q: What's the title of the script you entered in this contest, and what's it about?

A: The title of my script is "Alone in a Crowd" and it won third place in the short drama category.

A teenage boy struggles with his autism as he tries to survive high school life.

Q: What made you enter this particular contest? Have you entered any other contests with this script? If so, how did you do?

A: I liked the multiple genre categories and it appeared many other writers entered this contest.

Also, my script won first place in The Houston International Film Festival and second place in The Writers Place Screenplay Contest.

Q: Were you satisfied with the adminstration of the contest? Did they meet their deadlines? Did you receive all the awards that were promised?

A: They met their deadlines. I wasn't able to attend the festival, so I am waiting to receive my award by mail. I sent an email and haven't heard back yet. Hopefully, the award will arrive soon.

Q: Were you given any feedback on your script? If so, did you find the feedback helpful?

A: No feedback.

Q: Has your success in this contest helped you market your script? Were you contacted by any agents, managers or producers?

A: My success in this contest has helped my resume and several people have requested to read my script.

Q: What's your background? Have you written any other screenplays or television scripts?

A: I co-wrote a short script, "In the Hunt", which is currently a finalist at Shriekfest 2006. Another short script, "The Crossing" won the grand prize at the Gimme Credit Screenplay Competition and it will be produced with a professional crew and SAG actors.

Q: Do you live in Los Angeles? If not, do you have any plans to move there?

A: I currently live in LA.

Q: What's next? Are you working on a new script?

A: Later this month, I am excited to attend Shriekfest with my co-writer and promote our script, "In the Hunt."

Also, I am writing a feature about HIV/AIDS.
