Columbus Day Weekend; October 10, 2009.
Objective:
Screenplays will be judged on creativity, innovation, vision, originality and the use of language. The key element is that of communication and how it complements and is transformed by the language of film.

Rules:
Screenplays must have been written after 2006. Screenplays must be standard feature film length (90-130 pages) and standard U.S. format only.

Entering Procedure:

  • Screenplays must have a title page which includes only the title. The applicant's name should not appear on the cover or any other page of the screenplay. Judges will not be aware of the entrant's name.
  • Entry must include an application. Keep a copy of your completed application form for reference.
  • For confirmation that we received your entry, include a self-addressed stamped postcard.
  • There is no limit to the number of entries per entrant provided separate applications and submission fees accompany each entry.
  • The Festival is not responsible for screenplays lost or damaged in transit.
  • Screenplays will not be returned.
  • Please make a copy of your screenplay for your files.
Awards:
The Grand Prize winner will become the central focus during ScriptBiz™, the annual screenplay pitch forum. In 2009, ScriptBiz will be a one day program. The Grand Prize winner will also receive prizes valued at over $10,000. This includes software from Final Draft, a subscription to Scr(i)pt Magazine, promotion through Ink Spot (Writer's Script Network), travel, lodging, a full screenplay evaluation, an opportunity to work with a noted director, casting, and a final demonstration tape of that part of the work that has been produced and participate in the Forums and programs of the Annual RI International Film Festival.

RIIFF Announces Contest Results

Haunted House Sitter by Randi Barnes and Stacey Hegarty of Los Angeles has been named the winner of the 2009 Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF) Screenplay Competition. The script follows the misadventures of twelve-year old Kirby Barrett who thinks he's found the ideal summer job taking care of his neighbors' house, but he gets more than he bargained for when it turns out to be haunted by a rather angry spirit.

Rhode Island Film Fest Announces Screenplay Contest Winners

The Grand Prize in the 2007 Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF) Screenplay Competition will go to a scriptwriter with local roots.  Cranston, RI  native Joel Davis, along with his writing partner David C. Matthew, have won the Grand Prize in the contest for the screenplay “Last Flight of the Valkyrie”.
