All-American Joe

Synopsis

Joe Wannamaker doesn’t have a girlfriend, but he does have a love for sports. One evening Joe takes a walk around the mansion grounds his grandmother owns and has an unexpected encounter with a strange looking fellow named “Longsnout,” who was named such for good reason. Joe advises Longsnout his grandmother does not allow trespassers on her property but the strange appearing man tells Joe he cannot leave without granting Joe a wish, which Joe informs the man he has nothing to wish for since he is rich and has no need for anything because he already has everything. But Longsnout persist claiming if he doesn’t make a wish the boss will send him to the back of the line and his next chance to work won’t come for hundreds of years. Joe just wants to be rid of the strange man and offers to make a wish if he can think of something he doesn’t have if Longsnout will promise to leave and never return. The man agrees and Joe thinks hard but the only thing he would like would be to be good at a sport. Doesn’t matter which, just any sport. Longsnout thanks Joe and promises his wish will be granted by the boss who he will meet shortly. Longsnout disappears as quickly as he appeared and Joe returns to the mansion. A ring of the doorbell answered by the butler changes Joe’s life forever. Joe doesn’t know this stranger at his door is the devil himself and with just a signature will give Joe the acclaim, the roar of the crowd, he has always admired of others. The only problem is this Joe, unlike the Joe in “Damn Yankees” isn’t really good at anything but the world recognizes him as a true sports icon in all sports. Joe is terrible but the fans love him. Everyone loves Joe but no one can understand why. In this complete opposite of “Damn Yankees” Joe starts his professional football career as a quarterback then gives up football for baseball and quickly becomes the most beloved, worst pitcher in major league history. But Joe stumbles upon a pitch no one else has ever had that IS real and no one can hit. Joe even finds a girlfriend and orders the devil out of his life. But the devil isn’t through with Joe by a long shot. From a baseball brawl between players and popcorn vendors “All American Joe” is a non-stop tears in your eyes laugh a minute
