PITTSBURGH PHIL
Biopic of Harry Strauss, a.k.a. Pittsburgh Phil, notorious mafia hitman in the 1930’s, who rises from the streets of Brooklyn to become one of the most ruthless killers in Murder Incorporated.
Harry Strauss (Pittsburgh Phil) is a local thug who grows up on the streets of Brooklyn, New York, who dreams about joining the mafia. He is 19 years old and makes his living robbing people and businesses, dealing drugs and occasionally killing people if the price is right. Harry dresses as though he is a high roller, even though he makes just enough to scrape by. His fancy dress and his charisma seem to attract the ladies as he has a new woman on his arm quite frequently.
While on one of his crime activities, Harry meets up with some childhood friends Abe “Kid Twist” Reles and Harry “Happy” Maione, who are members of the American mafia outfit “Murder Incorporated”. With their help, they have Harry Strauss (Pittsburgh Phil) become a member of the outfit. Harry Strauss meets his bosses, Albert Anistasia, who hands out the murder contracts and Louis Lepke, who runs the Murder Incorporated office.
Harry Strauss (Pittsburgh Phil) seems to excel in his new line of work. He is often requested by other mafia families that run other parts of the United States. Harry Strauss (Pittsburgh Phil) has by now committed many murders throughout the United States. He works alongside other killers such as Martin “Bugsy” Goldstein, Frank “The Dasher” Abandando and many others. Harry Strauss (Pittsburgh Phil) starts to gain wealth and an ego to match.
Harry Strauss (Pittsburgh Phil) meets Evelyn Mittleman and immediately falls in love with her. Evelyn has been in the newspapers because everyone she dates seems to die by violent means. Evelyn is infatuated by Harry and the two are inseparable, except when Harry (Pittsburgh Phil) is committing murder for the mafia. Evelyn eventually figures out that Harry is in the mafia and makes him promise to leave the "life". Harry agrees and he and Evelyn plan to eventually leave the country for a new life together.
Harry Strauss (Pittsburgh Phil) is eventually arrested because Abe Reles is turning states evidence and gives evidence to convict almost everyone in Murder Incorporated, including Harry Strauss (Pittsburg Phil).
Harry Strauss (Pittsburgh Phil) pleads insanity at his trial and acts as such by acting like an animal, chewing on his lawyer’s satchel, not bathing, not shaving and so on. Harry Strauss (Pittsburg Phil) now faces the fight of his life, trying to avoid the state of New York electric chair.
