THE BEAUTY OF THE RODEO

A former rodeo queen returns home after thirty years, but her attempt to fit back in is further complicated by the arrival of the daughter she secretly placed for adoption.

After thirty years away, former rodeo queen Britt Burnett returns to her coastal hometown of Santa Reina for her grandmother’s funeral. Pregnant at seventeen, Britt kept it a secret and left town without saying goodbye - not to her family, and not to her high school love, Bobby Harris.

At the funeral, Britt comes face-to-face with Bobby, now a respected rancher and president of the rodeo board. Recently let go from her job, and unsure what comes next, Britt lingers in Santa Reina. As she reconnects with her sister Anne, the town’s mayor, and slowly rebuilds a connection with Bobby, she starts to believe she might belong there again.

That possibility is upended by the arrival of Michele, the daughter Britt placed for adoption. Now married with children of her own, Michele has come looking for her biological father: Bobby Harris.

The revelation blindsides Bobby. Reeling from the betrayal, he retreats from Britt. But when Michele shares that her young son is critically ill and in need of a bone marrow donor, both Britt and Bobby agree to be tested, binding them together despite the tension between them.

While waiting for the results, Britt forms a bond with Michele’s spirited daughter, Lily. Bobby, still quietly processing the life he never knew he had, finds himself equally taken with the child, who seems instantly at home at his ranch.

Bobby invites Michele and Lily to the annual Santa Reina rodeo, where legacy and identity take center stage. There, Britt relives the history that shaped her under the long shadow of her late mother, Lulu - the much-revered beauty of the rodeo. When the test results arrive that same day, Britt learns she is not a match and the one thing she believed might make up for the past slips away.

Having reached her breaking point, Britt heads for the ocean, where her mother’s tragic end still lingers. Knowing exactly where to find her, Bobby follows. He stands beside her in the water and offers what she hasn’t been able to accept for thirty years: forgiveness, and the chance to finally let go of shame.

Set against the visceral world of a small-town rodeo, The Beauty of the Rodeo is a grounded family drama about the weight of generational patterns and unfinished legacies - and the courage to break them.
