Synopsis

After taking a bullet for the governor, Capitol Police officer Gary Haskins is reassigned to monitor people on her threat list. His most intriguing subject is Earl Halsted, a grieving widower who publicly blamed the governor for policies that contributed to his wife’s death. As Gary and Earl form an unlikely friendship over minor-league baseball, Gary learns that the man responsible for Earl’s wife’s death is about to be released from prison. Earl’s visits to a gun range and cancer clinic convince Gary that revenge may be imminent. Ignoring his family, his superiors, and eventually the law, Gary secretly tracks Earl, risking his career to prevent a murder. But when Gary finally confronts him, Earl reveals he forgave his wife’s killer long ago—and exposes Gary’s desperate need to find danger so he can feel like a hero again. Forced into retirement, Gary must finally discover a purpose beyond protecting others.
