SEVERELY GIFTED

A bright, lonely teenager learns about love and loss while taking a summer job to escape his abusive father.

In the 1950s, a bright teen, Justin Butler, who has moved into a new neighborhood with his mother and abusive father, gets a summer job looking after a flower shop while its owner drives about on an ice cream truck, trying to make additional cash during the slow summer months. Justin, who knows a lot about academics, learns about life from the owner, Harry, and about love from a girl, Phoebe, who works at a deli up the street. But as his relations with his father worsen, and his relationship Phoebe hits a snag, Justin must learn to deal with tragedy and loss.
