Servants' Row
After an indentured servant is brutally beaten by an overseer, the multi-racial servants flee together from their colonial North Carolina plantation with the tyrannical owner in hot pursuit.
Angus, a social misfit, relies on the advice of his black overseer and friend, Madison, on the affairs of the heart. Ironically, unbeknownst to Angus, the daughter that he believes is his was fathered by Madison.
The English servant, Huxley, a rambunctious malcontent whose advances are rejected by a beautiful black maid who favors Jeremiah, sets Jeremiah’s cabin on fire, costing Jeremiah an arm. With Angus’ home life deteriorating, the production of tobacco flat and the suspicion that Jennifer desires Madison, Madison is replaced with Irish overseer, Gyles Kingman.
Gyles’ treatment of the servants is brutal but production increases and Madison is kept away from Jennifer. After a servant rebellion occurs on a neighboring farm, Gyles becomes tyrannical, viciously whipping the servants at his discretion.
Soon, most of the servants secretly plan to leave the plantation, led by the Native American, Sawunga, who is familiar with the territory. After the servants are made to work unmercifully in a driving snow storm on Christmas Eve, they’ve had enough.
On the next full moon, a maid feeds Angus a meal laced with powerful herbs that immobilize him while the men overtake and tie up Huxley and Gyles. The servants courageously escape into the wilderness toward an uncharted future.
They endure harsh conditions on their nocturnal trek through the dense forest with its frosty swamps before they set up camp. At daybreak, a Tuscarora warrior warns them that a mob of white men with rifles are heading their way.
They dash toward a deserted fort for refuge. On the way, there's a sneak attack by Huxley and Miles but with his remaining arm Jeremiah slings a knife into both their chests.
Angus’ mob catches up to the servants as they reach the fort. Angus anticipates a quick victory with his superior fire power, but a band of Tuscarora warriors, armed with bows and fiery arrows, arrive at the fort and scare Angus' cronies off. Jennifer confirms Angus' fears. Madison is actually "their daughter's" father. Angus leaves a broken man while the multi-racial servants start fresh in a land of their own as a new people
