When Doves Cry

In 1991, fraternal twins navigate the treachery of young adulthood, dealing with bullies, racists, homophobes, and abusive authority figures while seeking the ultimate Minneapolis experience; seeing the legendary Prince perform live at First Avenue on Halloween night but a freak blizzard threatens their plans.

Based on a true story. Kaki and Tommy are fraternal twins who are seniors in high school, living in a small town a few miles from the Twin Cities. Hastings and Minneapolis are worlds apart. The twins have an obsession with the rock star Prince, whose astrological sign is Gemini, the twins. Minneapolis’s music scene is at a peak as funk and punk music traditions into the alternative music scene. Kaki's boyfriend comes out of the closet, unwillingly, while she meets a boy who's Korean in a town full of white people, falling deeply in love. They navigate racism, homophobia, jock-bully mentality, date-rape and authority figures while trying to see Prince perform live at the world-famous nightclub, First Avenue on Halloween night 1991. A historic snowstorm hits, preventing them from accomplishing their dream as the state literally shuts down, trapping them on the road, yet they are touched and changed in their quest, as they become adults.
