CAPTAIN STEVE MCATEE gives the case to Tia Spencer, a by-the-book detective, who is new to the Washington, DC metro area. He interviews Tasha in his office. Later, McAtee allows Tasha to ride along with Tia to questions Casey's parents after they ask to meet her. Tia questions Casey's parents, Donald and Monica, looking for any clues of their involvement. She reveals to them the car was stolen and found in Chinatown. Tia clears them of any involvement and begins her search for Casey.

Tia and Tasha return to McAtee's office, where FBI agent SHANE BOYD tells them they received a photo of Casey with the time 4 PM on the back. THE PIPE calls and demands four million dollars from a trust fund that Donald will receive in two days. Tia and Boyd question Donald about withholding information about the trust fund. Tasha tells Tia her source received a tip that an Asian man in Chinatown saw a bald man and a young boy leaving the abandoned car. Captain McAtee takes a call from MAYOR FLANNIGAN questioning Tia being on the case, and McAtee describes Tia rescuing, an attorney's daughter in Los Angeles. Tia and Tasha go to the gun range, and Tia helps her improve her shooting. Tasha takes Tia to her source, and they have to solve a riddle to enter the apartment of "Three Wise Men" LONNIE C, ONION HEAD, and LIL CLARK.

Their questioning of the Three Wise Men leads them to a restaurant in Chinatown, where Tia makes Tasha wait in the car as she tries to find YE LIN. Tasha enters, and they chase Ye into an alley. Ye corroborates that a bald man took Casey before saying Casey dropped a video game that Ye gave to his son, Yao. Ye takes them to talk to YAO and his wife ZHILAN, and they take the video game back to the precinct. Tasha asks Tia how she would feel if they were permanent partners and to help train her for the physical portion of the police academy exam.

Captain McAtee questions what the pair was doing at the restaurant, and demands progress on the case. Tia reprimands Tasha for not giving him the identity of the Three Wise Men before Tasha returns home and notices Patrick has the same video game Casey had. Tasha tells Tia where Patrick got the game. That night The Pipe breaks into Tia's apartment and threatens her and Tasha.

The next day DOCTOR SILAS KENNEDY diagnoses her with a concussion, and he asks her out to coffee. While at the precinct gym, Tasha gazes at muscled officers, and Tia argues with OFFICER FITZGERALD. Captain McAtee tells them Casey's parents are holding a press conference. They go to the house of GRADY SIMMS, who provided Patrick with the game and find him dead. McAtee chastises them for withholding information before they question CURTIS BAILEY about providing The Pipe with drugs.

Casey's parents give a press conference with Flannigan as Casey watches from the dog cage built by The Pipe. Mayor Flannigan forces Captain McAtee to remove Tia from the case. He reluctantly obliges McAtee and tells her the FBI is making an offer to her to join the Bureau. He puts Tasha in protective custody after the Pipe's threat. Tasha takes Patrick and meets with the Three Wise Men and Ye, who take them to Nathan's bar, where Tia spots them. She follows them into a cocktail party at a hotel, where she crosses paths with an old adversary ROBERT KEENER. She gives him a piece of her mind and evades Tia.

Tia interrogates Big Balls Bailey, who points her to another bar. Tia asks Tasha for help, and they bond before speaking to SHELTON TINGLE at Funny Ronnie's Comedy Club. Bartender RILEY tells them Shelton used to employ off duty police officers as Tasha gets a text from Lonnie C about a potential location for Casey. As they drive, a car attempts to run them off the road, and Tia calls Boyd for backup. Tia runs to the house, but The Pipe escapes with Casey as she arrives. Tasha has Ye pick her up, and they pick up Tia and go in search of The Pipe. The Pipe takes Casey to Funny Ronnie's, where Tia and Tasha confront them. Tia beats up The Pipe as Tasha and Ye beat up Shelton. They return Casey to his parents, and McAtee and Boyd congratulate them for a job well done.
