The FORTUNATE ONE

After assassins wipe out his family, a gambling addict cop wins the lottery playing numbers from a fortune cookie and uses his newly won millions to become an eccentric vigilante, guided by fortune cookie wisdom.

Frank Chance may be a lot of things, but don't call him "Lucky."

The gambling addict cop has served a six month suspension for his compulsive vice, and after completing rehab, looks forward to reinstatement with Reno PD. Frank thinks he's finally squared with his arch nemesis, gambling tycoon Orson Decker, and wants his family to quit their jobs at his casinos.

But when Nevildine, Decker's right hand man, shows up asking for repayment of a loan Frank's daughter Heather took out, Frank has no choice but to help them in their shakedown of Rizvi, an international businessman. During a traffic stop, Frank makes off with a bag of cash and delivers it to Decker and Nevildine.

The next day, Rizvi turns up dead and Frank knows something is terribly wrong. He races home to his family but he's too late. Masked machine gun-wielding assassins have slaughtered them and blown up his house for good measure.

Frank is left devastated and shot up, barely escaping the melee himself. Taken in by a Chinese family, he is nursed back to health in the back of their restaurant where he forms a bond with their wise patriarch and his grandson. In his darkest despair, Frank reads a fortune cookie's message and sees it as a sign: "In matters of revenge, only The Fortunate One will prevail."

Frank plays the lotto using the numbers contained on the fortune-- and wins! 124 million dollars.

With his role as Decker's bagman coming to light, he resigns from the police force and buys a fortune cookie factory as his base of operations, remaking himself into an eccentric crime fighting dynamo--  even obsessively using the messages contained within the crispy treats to guide him at critical junctures on an unyielding quest for justice.

When he discovers Rizvi's money was bogus "super-dollars" from Asia, the mystery only deepens, and the hunt is on, for who set him up, who killed his family and who's really calling the shots. But first he must battle crooked cops, Chinese gangs and the Korean Yakuza along the way. Frank rolls the dice one more time to stop a major counterfeiting operation, in a spectacular showdown aboard a luxury superyacht... But it ain't really gambling if your life is at stake.

Frank Chance is about to find out if he's truly...

The Fortunate One.
