Set in the contemporary Newman Projects of Atlanta, "Succubus in the Hood" tells the story of Mary Jane Pittman, a woman cursed to live as a succubus since the slavery era. Born in 1836, Mary Jane carries the burden of her immortality and her need to consume the 'youth aura' of men to maintain her youthful appearance and survive. This supernatural ability transforms her into a hideous creature if she does not feed regularly.
Haunted by the tragic death of her father during the slavery era, Mary Jane moves from city to city, using her powers to exact revenge on those she deems wicked, especially men who have committed heinous acts. Her path leads her to the Newman Projects, where she finds a sense of purpose in protecting the community from its very own monsters. However, she maintains a strict moral code, targeting only those she perceives as deserving of her wrath.
Mary Jane's solitary existence takes a turn when she befriends Emma Watson, a 16-year-old girl struggling with her own traumatic experiences in the Projects. Emma's mother, Ruth, battles addiction, and her stepfather, Martin, is abusive. When Mary Jane discovers Martin's intentions towards Emma, her protective instincts intensify. She becomes a guardian figure to Emma, who sees beyond Mary Jane's supernatural façade to the tormented soul beneath.
Mary Jane's actions in the Projects do not go unnoticed. FBI Agent Ellah Fitzpatrick, who has been tracking the mysterious series of male disappearances linked to Mary Jane, gets closer to uncovering her true identity. As the narrative unfolds, Emma learns more about Mary Jane's past and the depth of her curse. Tensions escalate when Martin attempts to blackmail Emma, leading to a violent confrontation that reveals Mary Jane's true nature to everyone.
The story reaches its climax with Agent Fitzpatrick and other agents confronting Mary Jane. Realizing there is no escape and unwilling to harm the innocents around her, Mary Jane transforms into her monstrous form in front of them, confirming the truth about her existence. Ultimately, Mary Jane decides to flee, continuing her solitary journey and eternal mission of vigilantism.
In the aftermath, Emma and Ruth, grappling with the truth and their own personal challenges, decide to leave the Newman Projects for a fresh start. As Mary Jane continues her eternal quest in a new city, the lines between monster and savior remain blurred, leaving her legacy in the Projects a complex tapestry of fear, respect, and legend.
