Your Secrets Will Get You High

When a loud woman on a bus inadvertently starts a full-fledged AA meeting, she gets more than she bargained for. When the bus stops for a dinner break, all hell breaks loose.

When beautiful Penelope Prettie boards the bus in Montana heading to Portland, she lets everyone know it’s been 14 years since her life of hell with alcohol. But she has learned her lesson. Alcohol, she says, is the devil juice that ruined her life; until she found AA. People are drawn to her talk of sobriety and how they too can change their lives. Both men and women eagerly listen and tell Penelope of their own years of sobriety. Soon a full-fledged AA meeting is happening as people move closer to the tanned woman with blonde hair. Nearer the front of the bus Bella is not so happy. The louder the group gets, and the more she has to hear about Penelope’s 14 years of sobriety, the more disturbed she becomes. Her anger shows when she glares at Penelope every chance she gets. When the bus driver stops for a dinner break in the small town of St. Regis at a bar and diner, Penelope and her followers leave the bus and gather at a table inside. Bella finds the only seat left in the diner is one at a table near the group who continues the meeting. Bella orders a glass of wine and toasts Penelope when they make eye contact. Suddenly three police officers and the bus driver burst through the door and head toward Penelope. It seems Penelope, or rather Maud, has escaped before her trial began; driving while intoxicated, hitting and killing a child. Before the officers can hand cuff her, she turns to Bella’s table, grabs the glass of wine and gulps it down before she is dragged outside, kicking and screaming. Bella has the last laugh.
