Call for Voices of Color Screenplays
Independent Pictures, presenter of the Ohio Independent Film Festival
& the Ohio Independent Screenplay Awards, is seeking screenplays for
its Best Voice of Color Screenplay Award. The award emphasizes
Independent Pictures' commitment to people of color, their
stories, and getting those stories to the big screen.
"…Too many writers only enter the big contests, in which the
odds are not good for screenplays that don't fit the typical
Hollywood formula. Few, if any, of those contests have a special
category to recognize writers of color or scripts that concern
minorities," says Rich Figel, winner of the 2002 Best Voice of Color
Screenplay Award for his script INUGAMI.
The Ohio Independent Screenplay Awards introduce aspiring writers to
the professionals who can propel real writing careers. 2003 marks
the 7th annual screenplay competition. Since the inception of the
awards, winning screenplays have been produced into full-length
feature films, and other winners have been "optioned" for
future production. Additionally, some winning writers are now well
on their way to professional writing careers.
The Ohio Independent Screenplay Awards boasts a fair and seasoned
judging process. Personal coverage and feedback from the judges will
be available to every screenplay entrant. Finalists and winners are
submitted to various Hollywood and NYC producers, literary agents,
talent management companies and production companies, which can
become a major step to a writing career. In addition, winners
receive cash, magazines, software, professional screenplay reading,
and representation/promotion by WritersScriptNetwork.com.
Deadlines for the 2003 Ohio Independent Screenplay Awards are: JUNE
1. Late entries will be accepted no later than JULY 1. Please call
(216) 651-7315, email OhioIndieFilmFest@juno.com, or visit
