GVSU International Short Screenplay Competition Winner Announced
The winning script of the 10th Annual GVSU International Short
Screenplay Competition is "A Moment of Grace" by Samantha Humphrey of
Los Angeles. The story is about an American doctor who risks her life
to save a premature baby born at the height of the Israeli-Palestinian
conflict.
A Southern California native, Samantha Humphrey graduated with a B.A. in
Political Science from UCLA. After UCLA, Humphrey entered Second City's
Los Angeles Writers Program. At Second City, she concentrated on
sitcoms, sketch comedy and wrote political satire songs and sketches for
the HBO Workspace and the Second City Conservatory shows. This past
year, Humphrey wrote two feature length comedies and several episodic
specs for television. Most recently, Humphrey was chosen as a 2004 ABC
Writing Fellow for Episodic Television.
A Moment Of Grace is a very personal project for Humphrey. While
working for Steven Spielberg's Shoah Foundation, the Los Angeles Jewish
Federation and the Pacific Council on International Policy, Humphrey
found herself immersed in not only the politics but also the personal
loss resulting from the Israeli/Palestinian crisis.
A Moment of Grace is a fictional amalgam of the real stories of
heartache, hatred and forgiveness that that she heard.
