GVSU International Short Screenplay Competition Winner Announced

The winning script of the 10th Annual GVSU International Short Screenplay Competition is "A Moment of Grace" by Samantha Humphrey of Los Angeles. The story is about an American doctor who risks her life to save a premature baby born at the height of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

A Southern California native, Samantha Humphrey graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from UCLA. After UCLA, Humphrey entered Second City's Los Angeles Writers Program. At Second City, she concentrated on sitcoms, sketch comedy and wrote political satire songs and sketches for the HBO Workspace and the Second City Conservatory shows. This past year, Humphrey wrote two feature length comedies and several episodic specs for television. Most recently, Humphrey was chosen as a 2004 ABC Writing Fellow for Episodic Television.

A Moment Of Grace is a very personal project for Humphrey. While working for Steven Spielberg's Shoah Foundation, the Los Angeles Jewish Federation and the Pacific Council on International Policy, Humphrey found herself immersed in not only the politics but also the personal loss resulting from the Israeli/Palestinian crisis. A Moment of Grace is a fictional amalgam of the real stories of heartache, hatred and forgiveness that that she heard.
