Call for Entries: Nevada Film Office Screenwriters Competition

In the time it takes a car to be considered “classic,” the Nevada Film Office (NFO) has administered 20 years of its annual screenwriters competition. This contest is the oldest of its kind in the country, and year after year draws talented writers from all over the world.

The competition is international and open to all unsold writers. Contestants may enter as many scripts as they like. Each script must have a signed release form attached, which can be downloaded from the website, faxed or mailed. The entry fee is $15 per script for Nevada residents, and $30 each for non-residents. Only checks and money orders will be accepted and must be sent with scripts to the Nevada Film Office at 555. E. Washington Ave, Suite 5400, Las Vegas, NV 89101. The submission period is from May 1 to June 30, 2007.

Because it is Nevada’s competition, 75 percent of the locations in the script must be filmable in the state. Only scripts that are typed in industry standard format and between 90 and 130 pages will be accepted. Content must not be pornographic. For judging purposes, each script should have an outer cardstock cover with only the title of the script, and a removable page consisting personal information. All scripts must be 3-hole punched and bound with metal fasteners.

The first, second and third place script winners will be presented with awards and sponsor gifts by the Lieutenant Governor at an annual luncheon. The winning scripts and top ten honorable mentions’ loglines will be sent to production companies willing to read them for potential future projects.
