The 3rd Annual Marco Island Film Festival, October 11-15, 2000

Marco Island, FL….The 3rd annual Marco Island Film Festival opens October 11, 2000. Over 90 independent films will be screened during the 5-day fete including features, shorts, documentaries and student films. Eight International films will be screened including films from Australia, Argentina, Canada, Germany, The Philippines, and Spain. Dozens of celebrities and filmmakers will be on hand for the screening of their most current films.

Five nights of festivities kick-off on Wednesday, October 11 at 6:00 p.m. with our signature event “Sandals & Cinema” which includes a choice of opening night celebrations followed by a world premiere film screening Marco Island Style, on the beach and under the stars. Three nights of tribute celebrations will follow. On Thursday, October 12, the Festival will honor Celeste Holm with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Olde Marco Inn after the screening of her classic film “All About Eve.” On Friday, October 13 the Festival will honor Dick Van Patten with the John Esvang Award for comedy at Fiddler’s Creek Country Club after the screening of his new film, “Big Brother Trouble.” On Saturday, October 14 the Golden Eagle Award will be presented to Ben Gazzara at the Marco Island Yacht & Sailing Club for his outstanding commitment and dedication to the art of independent filmmaking after the screening of his latest film “Very Mean Men.” The cost of each evening event is $75 per person all-inclusive. In addition, to Gazzara, Van Patten and Holm, celebrities scheduled to appear include: Leon Coffee, Paul Heller, Margot Kidder, Mario Lopez, Jason Priestley, Brittany Snow, Mark Valley and Sean Young.

Daily events include “Coffee with…” one of our distinguished guests, and panel discussions with topics including “Women in Film,” “Acquisition and Finance,” and “From Script to Screen.” These events are open to the public and free of charge. Special events include “High Tea with Celeste Holm,” “Taste of the Town” featuring culinary delights of area restaurants, entertainment, a stunt show, and a staged screenplay reading performed by visiting celebrities.

Education is an integral part of the film festival. In addition to student film competitions and awards, there is a 5-day hands-on student workshop open to anyone wanting to learn the A-to-Z of filmmaking, a family oriented Kid Fest of films featuring an essay contest, and a student panel discussion on “Choices and Consequences.”

A Superstar Film Pass includes a ticket to the opening night celebration and closing “It’s a Wrap Party,” plus priority seating admission to all film screenings throughout the Festival. The Superstar Film Pass package is $200 per person. Day Passes for priority seating entrance to all film screenings for a single day can be purchased for $50.
