ScreenCraft Names Fellowship Winners
ScreenCraft has announced their 5th annual ScreenCraft Screenwriting Fellowship winners. The program is designed to advance the careers of talented screenwriters through ongoing mentorship and introductions to key entertainment executives and talent representatives.
Past ScreenCraft Fellowship winners have optioned their projects with studios and signed with top Hollywood representatives at United Talent Agency, CAA, WME, 3 Arts Entertainment, Anonymous Content, Paradigm Talent Agency, ICM, Bellevue Productions and more.
Selected from over 2,100 applicants worldwide who submitted features and pilots, the ScreenCraft Fellowship includes lodging at the historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, round-trip travel to Los Angeles for a week of meetings, mentorship and personal introductions to major studio executives, literary agents, managers and top film and TV producers.
Nearly all ScreenCraft Fellowship winners have gone on to receive offers for representation from top literary managers, and many past recipients have sold their projects to studios and been hired for open screenwriting assignments.
This year, the recipients will be meeting with heads of five major studios: Warner Bros. Entertainment, 20th Century Fox, NBCUniversal, Sony Pictures and Lionsgate.
This year's recipients are:
- Brock Newell, feature screenplay Ravenous
- Davia Carter, drama pilot Double Time Dames
- Georgina Love, feature screenplay Pig
In Ravenous, a fresh take on the cabin in the woods horror genre, Jake Sanders invites his new girlfriend, Miri, on a camping trip with all of his friends only to realize she is a cannibal who intends to kill all of them. Masterfully wielding the horror genre conventions, Ravenous is a story of love, acceptance, honesty and friendship at its core.
Double Time Dames, a one-hour drama set in the jazz age, tells the story of a brilliant female trumpeter who sheds her life of abusive men and attempts to start an all-female band as an Italian mob tries to stake their claim in her town. The lead, Jo, is a beautifully drawn character, whose sense or purpose, motivation, and morality are an absolute pleasure to watch.
Pig, a moving sci-fi feature, follows an experimental scientist as he raises a sentient pig as a mirror image of his terminally ill son, but when the pig learns his "father's" plans have a sinister bent, he fights to resist the inevitable. With deep characters and an impeccable pathos, the writer pushes the story beyond its original concept to pluck at your heartstrings.
