Lady Diogenes of the Shadow

Three retired ladies candidly discuss their eccentric neighbor over morning coffee. Is she mentally ill but legally sane or vice versa. Who is ultimately responsible for her well-being? An unfortunate "slice-o-life' in Americana today. You decide. (Dark comedy overtones) (A short play/teleplay)

A group of three retired professional ladies discuss their neighbor's progressive decline over morning coffee. The setting is an old Victorian mansion in an old established neighborhood in Anywhere, USA. The manor is further sub-divided into apartments. The main floor kitchen window overlooks a manicured front yard on a semi-busy road.

The object of their discussion is Celia, who looks like a she just stepped out from a zombie movie set. She is disheveled and unkempt. She has severe body odor. Simply put, she looks like a train-wreck. Celia is antagonistic to any type of helpful intervention.

Jean lives in the front apartment on the main floor of the Victorian. She is a retired professional. She is joined by June and Jane, other retired associates from various backgrounds in the community. They love their ritual of their daily koffee-klatch.

Who's responsibility is it for any type of intervention for Celia? The owner of the property? Celia's children? Concerned neighbors? The City? Is Celia legally sane but mentally ill or vice versa? What are the consequences of no intervention? You decide after this vignette.

A hybrid of a play/teleplay. (Dark humor overtones)
