Palisade!

In 1876, a runaway socialite uses her acting chops to stay ahead of a relentless pursuit by posing as a small-town schoolteacher in Nevada, but when the real teacher shows up, they swap identities in a shaky alliance that sparks Palisade's (true!) staged

In 1876 New York, runaway heiress Clara Vanderbilt Whitmore flees her domineering fiancé, Henry Pembroke, bound for San Francisco and her dreams of the theatre. After her money is stolen en route, she is stranded in Palisade, Nevada, a sleepy outpost along the Trans Continental Railroad, populated with salt-of-the earth folk and billed as “the safest town west of the Mississippi!”

When the real teacher, Abagail Finch, a lonely, penniless woman desperate for a fresh start arrives, Clara appeals to her empathetic nature and the two forge a tentative pact. With Clara teaching the children tableau vivant and Shakespeare and Abagail handling the real academics, the two women share a small room in Evie Wright’s boarding house and begin to experience a profound connection between them, the closest thing to a true friend either one has ever had.

Meanwhile, the Pinkerton detective hired by Henry follows her trail west, tightening the noose as Henry’s obsession with reclaiming his fiancée to save face and the merger of their respective families’ businesses grows into something more menacing.

Back in Palisade, Clara’s theatrical impulses collide with stoic railroad security chief Harlan Avery, who sought out Palisade specifically for its quiet safety, sparking antagonism - and a hint of chemistry - when Clara stages a Wild West fight for the passengers passing through on the rails. The town transforms into a must-see frontier destination, gaining prosperity but attracting scrutiny. As the shows grow larger and the newspapers take notice, a photograph reaches New York’s society pages, where Henry instantly recognizes Clara.

Now aware of her location, the Pinkertons descend on Nevada, threatening to tear apart the connection Clara and Abagail have built. When Abagail is identified as “Clara Whitmore” and mistakenly abducted back to New York in Clara’s place, Clara is forced to choose between holding on to her dream or saving her closest friend.
