Laura's List

After years spent being the perfect wife, mother, and grandmother, a 55-year-old widow decides to reclaim herself by writing a list of forbidden desires. But when she unexpectedly falls for a younger man, she’s forced to rethink what she knows about love, passion, and getting older.

Concept Laura’s List is a sexy, funny, and unexpectedly heartfelt romantic dramedy about second chances and self-discovery. Five years after her husband’s death, Laura—a 55-year-old widow, grandmother, and retired teacher—finally confronts decades of hidden desires with the help of a secret “List of Lusts” she creates in therapy. When a random accident brings Daniel, a younger man with his own heartbreak, into her life, fantasy suddenly becomes something much more real: a true connection. As Laura steps outside the boundaries she’s set for herself, she has to figure out if this awakening is a rebellion, a reinvention, or the start of a whole new chapter. In the spirit of The Idea of You, Book Club, and It’s Complicated, Laura’s List mixes playful comedy with real emotional depth, showing that desire, growth, and romance don’t have a shelf life. ? Synopsis Laura’s List is a bold, funny, and heartfelt romantic comedy about reinvention, desire, and how new chapters can begin long after everyone thinks your story is finished.

Laura is 55, a retired elementary school teacher, mother, grandmother, and widow. For most of her life, she’s been the one everyone relies on: the responsible daughter, the loyal wife, the caring mom, and the doting grandma. But after her husband George dies, Laura spends five years in therapy, trying to figure out who she is now that all those roles are gone.

Therapy pushes Laura to look at the parts of herself she’s always kept hidden. Her therapist suggests she write down her fantasies and desires—not because she has to act on them, but because just admitting them is a way to let go of years of shame. Laura turns this exercise into a secret journal she calls “Laura’s List of Lusts.”

Then fate takes a strange turn.

One day, while riding her bike, Laura takes a spill on a bike path. Daniel—a handsome, 28-year-old teacher still reeling from a broken engagement—rushes to help. What starts out as an awkward encounter quickly sparks a connection neither of them saw coming. For the first time in years, Laura sees herself as confident and attractive. Daniel looks past their age gap and finds a woman who is smart, funny, passionate, and truly alive.

Their attraction shakes up everything they thought they knew about themselves. Laura wonders if wanting Daniel makes her selfish, or if people will see her as inappropriate. Daniel worries about what others will think of him dating a woman his mom’s age. But together, they learn that honesty, humor, and vulnerability matter more than any rules society tries to set for them.

When Daniel accidentally stumbles on Laura’s secret journal, he braces himself for something embarrassing. Instead, he finds a woman who’s spent decades hiding her dreams and is finally brave enough to go after them. Rather than judging her, Daniel becomes her partner in adventure, helping Laura see that her fantasies aren’t about chasing youth—they’re about reclaiming a piece of herself she thought was gone for good.

But their biggest challenge comes when Laura’s family starts to notice how much she’s changing. Her daughter has a hard time accepting that her mom isn’t just “Mom” or “Grandma” anymore—she’s a woman with her own wants and needs. Laura has to decide if she’ll go back to the safe, familiar version of herself or keep embracing the woman she’s finally found. Meanwhile, Daniel has to face his lingering feelings about his ex-fiancée and figure out if Laura is just a thrilling detour or if she’s changed the way he thinks about love for good.

In the last scene, Daniel and Laura are role-playing Laura getting picked up at a hotel bar by a stranger. But their friends intervened with a surprise for both of them. Daniel’s friend Phil contacted Emma, his ex, to meet him at the bar to talk out their differences. Laura’s friend Susan called Fred, an old friend who always had a crush on Laura, to meet her at the bar like a blind date. The two leave with their age-appropriate dates, but in a better place because of each other. ? At its core, Laura’s List isn’t about a woman chasing fantasies—it’s about a woman finally choosing herself. It’s a celebration of second chances, unexpected romance, and the truth that life doesn’t end just because one chapter does. Sometimes, the best stories start when we stop worrying about what everyone else expects and finally ask ourselves what we really want.

Author Bio:
I'm fortunate to share life with my wife of 40 years, our three married children, and four wonderful grandchildren. My oldest son is a professor of creative writing, and I learned more from him than he ever did from me. He taught me the craft of storytelling and how to create a world within a world.

After a fulfilling career in teaching, counseling, and football coaching, I now devote my time to screenwriting. The discipline and patience I honed as an educator serve me well in this new creative chapter.
